HONEYPOT GAMES LAUNCHES STEAM PLAYTEST OF ARTISTIC ACTION-ADVENTURE GAME “RECITAL OF THE HEART”

Recital of the Heart now available to the public on Steam for PC users.

Honeypot Games LLC releases a public playtest of Recital of the Heart for PC on Steam. Experience a first look at this top-down metroidvania that takes players on a labyrinthian journey through a mirror dimension where works of fiction come to life. Recital of the Heart is populated by historic figures, characters, and the phantoms of their creators. Players must help Gregory retrieve mirror shards coveted by obsessive, disturbed, and disparaged antagonists and return to the real world, where his love Eliza awaits him.

“Recital of the Heart began as a literal childhood dream that was remembered, recorded, and kept until decades later," says Kiefer Nemeth, Cofounder. "I asked Dante [Cofounder] if he had any ideas about a game to make in this genre and he said 'I have exactly what you need.' So in a sense, this game has been waiting to be made for almost 20 years.”

Recital of the Heart is a top-down perspective adventure game full of combat, puzzles, and story. Some encounters put the player one-on-one against a handful of strong, tactful enemies, while others fill a room with bullets the player might dodge, block, or deflect. Depending on the situation, the player has many tools at their disposal. As they progress, the player will obtain new brushes (up-close weapons), magical instruments (ranged attacks), and tempos (movement abilities), each with a unique mechanic. A slow, shielded enemy might prompt the player to swap to the Inkwell, which can charge up and pack a wallop, then back to the Quill for quick strikes that chip away at the fiend. Additionally, the player collects Flourishes that augment the way attacks behave, such as tripling bullets fired or deflecting enemy bullets when struck. Finally, Gregory travels with a companion, Kand, who guides him along the way. Kand doesn't just provide advice and sarcastic quips, however. Players can literally throw Kand at enemies and even block bullets with him. Honeypot Games encourages you to find out whether you feel catharsis or guilt when Kand misses a target and splats against a wall. 

With only two developers, Honeypot Games needs lots of feedback to make this dream a reality. The studio invites playtesters to venture beyond the veil and connect memories and dreams in the playtest of the otherworldly action-adventure game Recital of the Heart.
